On 13 January 2007, twelve students from the UAE Academy were lucky enough to be chosen to go to Seattle on a cultural exchange programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in Abu Dhabi. During their 2 week stay, the students visited some major companies such as Boeing and Microsoft. Other companies were also visited such as Starbucks Head Office, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Students were also invited to a Seattle Luncheon, where they could talk to business men and women from Seattle. Some of them were introduced to Bill Gates Senior, who happened to be attending the luncheon that day.
At the time of their visit it snowed in the city, which was very unusual. A trip was taken to Snoqualmie Pass where students were able to play in the snow, and some were even brave enough to hire some skis for a short while. There were no broken bones and a good time was had by all!
